Elk

My elk hunting is all done in Southwest New Mexico in the Gila and Apache National Forests. Year-end and year-out the Gila produces the largest harvested bulls in the state. I offer archery, muzzleloader and rifle hunts.

Archery season is from the first of September to mid September. New Mexico offers 6, 8 or 10 day hunts. The methods I use are spot & stalk; stands over water and wallows. Most shooting is done from 15 - 40 yards. Rates: 6 days - $4,200; 8 days - $4,800 & 10 days - $5,800.

I also offer muzzleloader and rifle hunts. The hunts are 5 day hunts. The elk hunts begin in early October and run through mid-December. I use the spot & stalk method and sit water holes or well used game trails. On the early October hunts, the bulls are normally still bugling. In 2005 New Mexico went to a point restriction.

Muzzleloader hunts are strictly in primitive weapon only areas that haven't been rifled hunted in many, many years.

Rates: 5 days - $4,000 (rifle & muzzleloader).

For the mobility-impaired, I offer a 5 day hunt which is in early October. This is one of New Mexico's finest elk hunt. The bulls are generally still screaming, what an opportunity to harvest a magnificent trophy. The hunt is on a draw system or if unsuccessful, a landowner permit can be obtained. Rates: 5 days - $4,000. 50% nonrefundable deposit required upon booking.

All the elk hunts in New Mexico are on a draw basis. I handle the application process for you.

If unsuccessful, the license fee will be returned to you. If successful, a 50% nonrefundable deposit is required with the balance due 30 days prior to the scheduled hunt date. The deadline to apply is early April. If unsuccessful, landowner permits are available, prices ranging from $2,000 - $6,000
